The Defender Hockey team got a shutout victory over the University of Kansas on Saturday afternoon to go 2-0 on the weekend and move to 9-2-0 overall this season.
How it Happened:
The game started out slowly with no goals scored in the first period, and for quite a bit of the second period. About halfway through the second, Captain,
Jonah Weems put the Defenders on the board and they never looked back.
Although it was still competitive on the scoreboard after two complete periods, Dordt broke away in the third, scoring 5 goals, adding two late on power plays.
The Defender Defense was able to hold Kansas scoreless with
Hayden Stevens in goal.

Bryce Swalve led the way for the Defender offense each scoring 2 goals a piece.
Zach Espenson and
Noah Wilmes each picked up a goal and an assist.
Lucas Van Berkel had 1 goal to his credit.
Andrew Benson,
Austin Green,
Isaac Baart,
Taylor De Jager, and Isaac Bedwell all contributed one assist to the effort.
In total, Dordt won the shots on goal battle with 29 compared to 16 for Kansas.
Hayden Stevens held his second shutout this season, making 16 saves in the process.

Defender Hockey fans only have to wait until Thursday this week to catch more action as Dordt hosts a three game set with Dallas Baptist University. The Defenders and Patriots will play on Thursday at 7pm (CST), Friday at 7pm (CST), and Saturday at 1pm (CST). All three games will be played at Vernon Arena in Sioux Center.
