A Saturday night, 5-4 shootout victory on the road over Dallas Baptist puts the Defender hockey team off to a 2-0 start to the season.
When asked about Saturday nights game, and the weekend, Head Coach
Tyler Morgan had this to say:
These guys fought hard both nights and proved to be willing to do what it takes to win. Each night we were trailing entering the third period, and each night we were able to fight back in the game. It was a great effort from everyone on the team both nights. DBU is a great hockey team and we are excited to bring them up to Sioux Center to continue having great games with them.
Stat Summary:
The Defenders scored four regulation goals.
Zach Espenson led the team with 2 goals scored.
Noah Wilmes had a goal and 2 assists, and
Lucas Van Berkel had a goal and 1 assist.
Alex Espenson,
Nathan Fanning,
Bryce Swalve, and
Mason Carrels each had one assist.
Wilmes and
Austin Green scored in the shootout to seal the victory.
In total Dordt had 43 shots on goal. Dallas Baptist had 28 shots on goal.
Hayden Stevens made 24 saves as the Defender Goalie.

The team will return to Sioux Center and play Creighton in their home opener at Vernon Arena on Friday, September 30
th at 7:00 pm, and then again on Saturday, October 1
st at 1:00 pm.
