Dordt hockey got a 2-1 shootout win in their home opener against Creighton on Friday night. The win moves the Defenders to 3-0 to start the season. Dordt will be back in action for round two against Creighton at 1pm tomorrow afternoon. You can watch that game live on the

How it happened:
The Defenders and Bluejays played a tough, defensive game throughout the night. Creighton led in shots on goal on the scoreboard through the 1
st period, and through most of the night. It was a 0-0 game as the 2
nd period began. Both goalies made impressive saves in the 1
st to keep the game scoreless.
Charlie Alteir finally gave Creighton a 1-0 lead with 13:49 left to play in the 2
nd period. The Defenders started to rack up some good scoring chances after that, but weren't able to find the back of the net until the 3
rd period.
Noah Wilmes scored the game tying goal with under 10 minutes left in regulation. He was assisted by
Noah Wilmes and
Mason Carrels.
Dordt was the aggressor offensively through the remainder of the 3
rd period but couldn't avoid going to overtime tied 1-1.
After 5 minutes of scoreless overtime in which both teams had chances, the teams went into a shootout, which Dordt won 2-1.
Austin Green scored the first shootout goal, and
Alex Espenson scored the game winner.
Stat Summary:
- Wilmes scored one goal. Van Berkel and Carrels each had an assist on the goal.
- Green and A. Espenson each scored in the shootout.
- In total, the Defenders put 31 shots on goal and tallied 14 penalty minutes. Creighton finished with 24 shots on goal and 16 penalty minutes.
- Graeme Edmund had an impressive night, making 23 saves for the Defenders.
