Grant Brouwer and
Payton Mauldin highlight a great day for the Dordt University men's track and field team at their home meet held today at the Dordt Recreation Center.
Defender athletes won eight events in the first meet of the 2023 calendar year and third meet overall this indoor season. Dordt claimed first place finishes in five running events, one relay and two field events.
Grant Brouwer won two events, taking first in both the high jump and triple jump. Brouwer cleared 2.01m and met the provisional standard and sits No.10 in the NAIA to date, No.5 in the GPAC. The senior then won the triple jump with a leap of 13.93m, second best in the GPAC and the third bes mark in program history.
Payton Mauldin took first in the 600m and met NAIA 'A' standard once again with a time of 1:19.23, the third best time in program history. The junior also anchored the winning 4x400 relay in the final event of the day, teaming with
Micah Schaap,
Peyton Miller and
Cole Zevenbergen.
In addition to his first place finish in the 4x400, Zevenbergen won the 400m with the sixth fastest time in the GPAC to date (50.50).
Logan Franken and
Trey Engen won the 60m and 1000m events, respectively. Franken clocked a time of 7.03 and is sits No.7 in the GPAC rankings. Engen just missed out the NAIA 'B' standard with a time of 2:31.2 in the 1000m.
Simon De Jong won the pole vault and cleared 3.80m. Two Defenders,
Matt Haken and
Josiah Merkle, finished second and third in the weight throw respectively.
