Breems To Join Defender Running Programs

(Monday, January 16; Sioux Center, Iowa) Jonathan Breems, a senior at Unity Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender cross country and track programs.

"I am excited to welcome Jonathan to our program.  He has had the opportunity to run for a strong Unity Christian boys' program under the guidance of Coach Jake Byma.  He loves running and will greatly add to the distance crew.  Additionally, he is a great fit for Dordt University and will be an outstanding student across the entire campus.  I look forward to working with Jonathan for the next four years," said Dordt cross country head coach and assistant track and field coach Nate Wolf.

Breems has a personal best of 17:29 on a 5,000-meter meter course and runs the 1,600 and 3,200 in track and field. Breems was a state meet qualifier in cross country in 2020, 2021, and 2022 and earned all-conference honors in those three years as well.  Breems was chosen to run in the Iowa Senior All-Star race at the conclusion of the cross country season this year.

"I want to receive a Christ-centered education.  I find joy in learning and I would like to be equipped to serve others in all facets of my life. I am glad that I get to be a part of Dordt's excellent running programs and I hope to reflect Christ in competition and learning," said Breems.

Jonathan is the son of Nick and Jenni Breems of Sioux Center, Iowa. He plans to study engineering at Dordt.
