The Dordt University men's track and field team qualified two relays for the upcoming NAIA Indoor Championships on day one of the SDSU Indoor Classic held in Brookings, S.D.
The Defenders distance medley team of
Trey Engen,
Micah Schaap,
Payton Mauldin and
Joe Anderson was the first to qualify on Friday night. Dordt won the race with a time of 10:08.5, easily hitting 'A' standard with the seventh best time in the NAIA. Tonight's time ranks fourth all-time in Dordt history.Â
Dordt followed with a second place finish and 'A' standard time in the 4x800 relay. The Defenders placed second overall but first among NAIA teams with a time of 7:48.71, fifth best in the NAIA. Relay members include
Peyton Miller,
Josiah Wittenberg,
Dayton Brunsting and
Cole Zevenbergen.
The Defenders ran well in the 3000m, led by
Aidan Vorster who was the top NAIA finisher today with a time of 8:36 where he ranks ninth in the GPAC heading into next week's conference championship.
Thaniel Schroeder was close behind and was the second NAIA runner to finish, posting a time of 8:41. Both
Avery Den Herder (8:53) and
Jacob Brouwer (8:55) ran personal bests today.
