The Dordt University men's track and field team won the 2023 Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Championship this evening at the Walz Fieldhouse on the campus of Concordia University in Seward, Neb.
Defenders announced as the GPAC Indoor Champion
The Defenders edged out Doane (204.5 - 194) to claim their second indoor conference title in three years (Dordt also won the conference championship in 2021 in Mitchell, S.D.). Dordt secured the championship in the second to last event of the day, the 3000m, where the Defenders finished 1st - 5th. Concordia placed a distant third (100.5 points), followed by Mount Marty (81) and Midland (62.5).
Dordt athletes turned in many outstanding performances throughout the day, led by
Payton Mauldin, who was named the GPAC Men's Athlete of the Meet after winning three individual titles. Mauldin defended his indoor championships from the 2022 season in both the 600m and 800m and added a 400m conference title for good measure. Mauldin's accomplishment is made even more impressive in that his three events took place in a span of 90 minutes.
