Five Defenders Meet Qualifying Mark For Nationals

Joe Anderson broke the school record in the 5000m

The Dordt University men's track and field team had a tremendous first day competing at the Frank Sevigne Invite, a two-day meet held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and hosted by the University of Nebraska.  Joe Anderson headlines a list of four Defenders who qualified for nationals in the 5000m with their performance this evening. Anderson not only finished fourth in a loaded field that featured 30 total runners mostly from NCAA D-I schools but also broke the longest standing indoor school record by nearly three seconds, set by Jerrold Wynia in 1982, with a time of 14:27.7. Anderson's time currently sits as the fifth fastest in the NAIA.

Both Peter Shippy and Davis Tebben also met the auto mark with their time in today's 5000m. Shippy won his heat and finished ninth overall with a personal best time of 14:37.7. Shippy's time is the third fastest in program history and sits eighth in the NAIA. Tebben placed 12th overall with a time of 14:50.5, seventh fastest in program history and 14th best in the NAIA. Aidan Vorster met the provisional mark and placed 14th overall with a personal-best time of 14:55.

Kyle Baumert ran a personal best time (8.38) and met the provisional mark in the 60m hurdle prelims, a time that puts the senior sixth in the GPAC. Baumert's time is also the second fastest in program history.

Levi Schelhaas posted a 15th place finish in the 400m (49.52), the third fastest time in program history.

Day two at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite begins at 11am on Saturday morning.
