Grant Brouwer hit the provisional standard and won the high jump to highlight the final day at the Red Raider Open for the Dordt University men's track and field team. The two-day meet was held on the campus of Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.Â
Brouwer cleared a season-best 2.05m, seven inches higher than the second place (Vance Borcher - Northern State) jumper, to take home the title in the high jump. Brouwer passed on the opening heights and entered the competition at 6-01.5 and with just seven jumpers remaining. The senior cleared the next three heights on his first attempt and made it over his final height (2.05m) on his third attempt.
Wyatt Gulker also placed in the top five and cleared a personal-best 1.82m.
Ben Van Eps turned in a top five finish in the triple jump, recording his best jump (12.38m) on his fourth overall attempt and first in the finals.Â
Matt Haken and
Tyler Vander Molen had a strong day and a top 10 finish in the discus. Haken saved his best throw for his final attempt (43.33m) to finish sixth overall; Vander Molen earned a spot in the finals and had a huge personal best toss of 38.41m in his final attempt.
Three Defenders finished among the top five in the 1500m, led by
Joe Anderson in second place with a time of 4:03.5.
Davis Tebben (3rd - 4:07.9) and
Aidan Vorster (4th - 4:08.79) crossed the finish line right behind.Â
