Field events dominated day two at the Red Raider Open for the Dordt University women's track and field team. The two-day meet was held on the campus of Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
Kelsey Evenhouse and
Faith Measel competed in the final three events (long jump, javelin and 800m) and both turned in top five marks overall in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in the heptathlon. Evenhouse totaled 3,388 points and finished fifth while Measel accounted for a personal-best 3,234 points to place sixth. Evenhouse had a personal best mark in the long jump (4.62m) and currently sits third in the GPAC in the heptathlon. Measel's point total puts her in fifth place overall with one more week left prior to the GPAC Championships.
Bailey Beckman posted a top 10 finish in the long jump, placing fifth with a season-best jump of 5.08m. Beckman's mark currently sits 12th in the GPAC performance list.
Maren Hettinga finished seventh in the discus with a personal-best toss of 36.53, achieved on her third and final throw of the prelims and a mark that advanced her into the finals. Hettinga, who bettered her previous personal best by over 1.0m, currently sits 18th on the GPAC performance list.
Both
Emily Wingert (1.52m - 8th) and
Cassie Brandsma (1.52m - 9th) placed in the top 10 in the high jump.
Jessica Kampman highlighted a small contingent of Defenders who competed on the track. Kampman placed second in the 1500m, overtaking a pair of runners on the final lap to slide into the runner-up spot with a time of 4:51.
Riley Gutridge placed seventh (1:21.9) in the 400m hurdles, an event the freshman competed in for the first time.
