The Defenders defeated the Dallas Baptist Patriots with a 9-6 decision at home for their 12th win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt got up early as
Levi Loken scored just over a minute into the game. Loken was assisted by
Brady Espenson and
Alex Espenson.
Lucas Van Berkel added on an unassisted goal just a few minutes later to go up 2-0.
Levi Loken scored his second goal of the game just 40 seconds later, assisted by
Brady Espenson and
Andrew Benson. Dordt entered the first intermission with a 3-0 lead.
The second period started very similar to the first after
Noah Wilmes scored off a pass from
Mason Carrels and
Andrew Benson scored off of a pass from
Rylan Veenstra. Dordt had a comfortable 5-0 lead in the second but three straight Patriot power play goals would quickly erase Dordt's lead.
Zach Espenson put in a power play goal of his own, assisted by
Rylan Veenstra and
Mason Carrels. A few minutes later,
Mason Carrels scored the fifth power play goal of the second period and the seventh goal of the game for the Defenders. Carrels was assisted by
Levi Loken and
Zach Espenson. The second period saw 12 penalties, six by each team.
Dordt struck yet again just 15 seconds into the third period after
Brady Espenson scored unassisted. Ryan Veenstra scored seven minutes later to score his first career goal on a power play, assisted by
Zach Espenson and
Levi Loken. DBU's David Huntting and Colin Gorman also scored on power plays but were unable to complete the comeback.
Dordt's record improves to 12-1-1 overall and will finish the weekend series against DBU tomorrow, November 23 at 2 pm.
