The Dordt hockey team defeated the Dallas Baptist Patriots on a 13-2 decision in the Vernon Arena on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders got on the board very quickly as
Christopher Janssen scored off of assists from
Luke Kester and
Mason Spejcher just 55 seconds into the game. A minute later,
Isaac Baart netted the second goal of the game. Baart was assisted by
Luke Kester. Dordt added to their lead after
Noah Wilmes scored off of a pass from Ryan Veenstra.
Levi Loken scored Dordt's fourth goal of the period, assisted by Ryan Veestra and
Mason Carrels. Dordt capped off a five goal period after
Rylan Veenstra scored an unassisted goal with 1:18 left in the period. Dordt would go into the first intermission with a 5-1 lead.Â
The second period picked up right where the first one left off as
Noah Wilmes scored with 9:55 left in the second period. Wilmes was assisted by
Andrew Benson and
Mason Carrels.
Rylan Veenstra added to the lead a few minutes later off an assist from
Noah Wilmes.
Mason Spejcher scored 30 seconds later off a pass from
Isaac Baart.
Levi Loken netted the ninth goal of the game with 2:08 left before intermission. Dordt would enter the final intermission with a 9-2 lead.
Dordt scored four more times off of goals from
Mason Spejcher,
Brady Espenson,
Alex Espenson, and
Isaac Baart.Â
Isaiah Van Noord finished the game iwth 30 saves on 32 shots.Â
The officials called the game with 2:04 left in the third period.
Dordt's record improves to 13-1-1 overall and will take on Nebraska Omaha.Â
