The Dordt hockey team defeated the East Texas Baptist Tigers by a score of 8-1 on Friday night in the Vernon Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders found themselves in full control of the in the first period despite not being able to put the puck in the net. That was until
Levi Loken broke the stalemate with a power play goal with 15 seconds left in the first period. Dordt dominated the first period with 24 shots on goal to East Texas Baptist's one.
Unlike the first period, the second period saw a flurry of action including five defender goals.
Reuben Horneman netted the second goal off of passes from
Andrew Benson and
Zach Espenson with 14:28 left in the second. Just over a minute later,
Mason Spejcher put the Defenders up by three, assisted by
Nate Lorenze.
The Tigers put their only goal of the game in after Nikolas Roudkovski scored off of passes from Balke Lind and John Petrone.
Dordt answered right back just 49 seconds later after
Luke Kester scored, assisted by
Mason Spejcher. Dordt added another goal with an Espenson frenzy as
Zach Espenson scored on assists from
Alex Espenson and
Brady Espenson.
Andrew Benson capped off a five goal second period, assisted by mason Carrels and
Lucas Van Berkel.
Dordt added two more goals in the third period. The seventh Dordt goal of the game was scored by
Levi Loken, his second of the night. Loken was assisted by
Zach Espenson.
Alex Espenson capped off the win with goal, assisted by
Reuben Horneman.
Isaiah Van Noord secured 14 saves on 15 shots. Dordt out shot East Texas Baptist 64-15.
Dordt will finish the series against the Tigers on Saturday, November 8. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 pm.
