Jamestown def. Dordt 85-81
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men's basketball team lost an 85-81 decision on Wednesday night in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders were trailed by more than 20 points in the first half at 32-11 but bounced back to get within 52-41 at halftime.
Dordt was still down 70-54 with 13:39 left in the game.Â
Ben Fairclough started the Dordt rally with a two-point basket and
Connor Millikan followed with a pair of free throws.Â
Ty Van Essen's free throw at the midpoint of the half got Dordt within single digits and
Bryce Coppock's three-point basket kept the rally rolling.
Luke Rankin's three-point basket, his first of the game tied the game at 70-70 with 7:33 left in the game.
Dordt got another stop but couldn't convert for the lead and the teams were tied at 73, 75 and 77 with
Connor Millikan tying the game at 77-77. Dordt had another chance to take the lead at the 2;48 mark but a blocked shot led to a Jamestown three-point shot. Rankin got a two-point jumper to get within 80-79 but Jamestown changed the outlook of the game with a three-point basket for a four-point lead at the 1:55 mark.
A Dordt miss allowed the Jimmies to get up by six and Fairclough's free throws at the 1:02 mark cut the gap to 85-81. Dordt got the ball back but missed a field goal with :23 left in the game and couldn't convert after a missed Jamestown free throw and the final ended 85-81.
