(Thursday, April 18; Sioux Center, Iowa) Ryan Coutts, a student Willetton Senior High School (Australia), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender men's basketball program.
"Ryan has been a successful post player in Australia and we are excited to see how he does here at Dordt. He is a great young man and will fit in very well at Dordt," said Dordt men's basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.
Coutts is a 6-7 forward who averaged 24.5 points per game with 11.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while converting 57 percent of his field goal attempts. He also had a 13.4 points per game average with seven rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in the National High School Championships. Coutts was the Most Valuable Player for the Willeton Senior High Schoool and Eastern Suns teams.
"Dordt University looks like a great school both academically and athletically which will greatly help not only my basketball but also my education. When I first got in contact with Kyle Lindbergh, he seemed like a great guy who I connected with right away and then also met Coach Van Haaften and we also connected really well and I knew I would love to be able to play for the pair of them. The basketball program has also had great success and I feel that I have a lot to bring to the team and look forward to playing next year and improving myself not only on the court but as a person as well," said Coutts.
Ryan is the son of Brad and Caroline Coutts of Perth, Australia. He plans to study Health & Human Performance: Exercise Science.
