GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
A 4-0 lead wasn't enough and the Dordt Defender softball team lost a 7-5 decision to Mount Marty on Thursday afternoon in Yankton, South Dakota. After scoring four int eh top of the fourth inning the Defenders were tagged for six runs in the bottom of the inning and didn't bounce back in dropping the first of two games.
Alyssa Villa singled to centerfield to score
Chloe Kreuz in the fourth and
Brynn Torrenga had a double that scored two runs to make it 3-0. Brooklyn Cox's double ended the Dordt scoring and gave the Defenders a 4-0 lead.
Mount Marty's rally started with a two-run homerun and a second two-run homer tied the game in the fourth. A two-run single closed the scoring in the frame and made it 6-4 when all the damage was done. The Lancers added a run in the bottom of the sixth on three hits and two errors for a 7-4 lead.
Dordt's
Karli Olsen homered with one out in the seventh and
Aurora Tyson singed to get the tying run to the plate but a  fielder's choice and a flyout ended the threat.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders lost a 4-0 verdict in game two of their doubleheader on Thursday as the pitchers dominated the game with just a combined eight hits between the two teams.
Mount Marty scored one in the fourth to break up the shutout and then added a pair of homeruns for three more runs in the fifth to make the final 4-0.
Dordt stranded three runners in the first two innings and then left a runner on in both the fifth and sixth. Dordt had a runner as far as second three times.
THE NUMBERS
- Both teams had four hits.
- Emma Groen was issued Dordt's only walk and Mount Marty worked for three walks.
- Brynn Torrenga had Dordt's only extra base hit—a double.
- Brooke Rule, Chloe Kreuz and Brooklynn Cox all had a single each.
- Alexa Kopaska pitched four-plus innings and gave up two runs and two hits with three walks. Kopaska had three strikeouts.
- Bailey Sample pitched the final two innings and gave up two runs on two hits. Sample had two strikeouts.
THE CONFERENCE RACE
Dordt is now part of a four-way tie for third place with Jamestown, Morningside and Concordia.
