The Dordt Defender hockey team bounced back from a Friday night loss with a 5-2 win over Missouri State on Saturday, January 25 in Sioux Center.
As they did on Friday, the Defenders scored first with a goal with 12:05 left in the first period when
Reuben Horneman knocked a loose puck in from in front of the goal and the 1-0 lead held to the intermission. The Bears came back with a goal 17 seconds into the second period off a face-off to tie the score.
An
Andrew Benson feed to
Luke Kester at the 7:09 mark of the second period put the Defenders up again. Dordt held that 2-1 lead through the rest of the second period but the Bears again struck quickly, this time at the start of the third period. The goal at the 19:35 mark set up a tense final period. Â
Levi Loken capitalized with a power play goal off a rebound at the 12:16 mark and
Rylan Veenstra assisted
Mason Carrels at the 9:49 mark for a 4-2 lead.
Missouri State pulled its goalie in the closing minutes and
Nate Lorenze made the final 5-2 with a goal in the closing seconds.
Dordt had a 44-43 shots advantage.
Dordt is 16-4-1 this season and will next play Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, February 1 at Windom, Minnesota.
