The Dordt hockey team won their first game back from the break and the first game against Florida Gulf Coast by a score of 6-5 on Friday night in Fort Myers, Florida. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Defenders started the new year with a win on the the road against the FGCU Eagles after Lucas Van Berkel scored off of passes from Mason Carrels and Christopher Janssen. Dordt added another goal from Zach Espenson, assisted by Rylan Veenstra and Isaac Baart.

The Defenders continued to score after Rylan Veenstra added to his stat line with a goal of his own, assisted by Zach Espenson. Andrew Benson netted a goal off a pass from Mason Carrels and Noah Wilmes. Dordt added two more goals later in the game from Lucas Van Berkel to secure the hat trick. Van Berkel was assisted by Rylan Veenstra and Zach Espenson.

Dordt was able to hold off the Eagles as Isaiah Van Noord came away with 43 saves on 48 shots.

Dordt's record improves to 15-2-1 overall.
