Box Score 2 The Dordt Defender softball team earned a pair of wins on Friday, January 31 to open the 2025 season at the American State Bank Sports Complex in Sioux Center, Iowa. Dordt started the game with a 6-2 win over Mayville State and finished with a 9-2 victory over Dakota State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mayville State scored a run in the fourth inning to break up the scoreless tie but Dordt's answer came in the bottom of the fifth when
Brooke Rule doubled in
Taylor Horsham but
Brooklynn Cox was thrown out at the plate.
Kacie Karsak followed with a homerun that easily cleared the leftfield fence for a 3-1 lead.
The Comets answered with a run in the sixth but Dordt gave itself some breathing room when
Annabelle Hensley scored on an error and Cox tripled Horsham and
Abbey Hitchcock for a 6-2 lead and that held up as
Chloe Kreuz recorded her 10
th strikeout of the game for the final out with two runners on.

Dordt scored at least one run in each of the first three innings and added two more in the fifth while building a 7-2 lead.
Dordt's first run came on a Cox single that pushed Rule in but Dakota State answered with two in the home half of the inning. The Cox and Rule combination worked out with another run in the second for a 2-2 tie. Dordt followed by unlocking the tie on an
Addison Stephenson-Roy single and a
Peyton Whipple double for a 5-2 lead and Stephenson-Roy doubled in another run in the fifth and a Whipple ground out extended the lead in the fifth.
Rule tripled Whipple across in the seventh and Cox's single scored Rule for Dordt's final runs of the game for a 9-2 lead that held up for the final.
