The Dordt hockey team ended the regular season with a 7-1 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Vernon Arena on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Arkansas opened the scoring 47 seconds into the second period after Jason Gifford was assisted by Zach Davis and Tom Verble. However, Dordt would earn a power play as Landon Miller was given two minutes for hooking and the Defenders would capitalize on the man-up advantage a minute and a half later.
Luke Kester netted the game tying goal, assisted by
Mason Carrels and
Brady Espenson.
The Defenders scored the go-ahead goal at the 7:58 mark, this time off the stick of
Mason Carrels. Carrels was assisted by
Reuben Horneman and
Andrew Benson. This would prove to be the game winner.
It was all Defenders in the third period as
Mason Spejcher scored with 16:48 left, assisted by
Luke Kester and
Noah Wilmes. Just over a minute later,
Rylan Veenstra scored Dordt's third, assisted by
Mason Carrels. At the 13:25 mark, Logan Shipley was given two minutes for hooking and the Defenders converted the power play just 24 seconds later.
Levi Loken scored the fifth Defender goal, assisted by Rylan Veestra and
Zach Espenson.Â
Dordt added two more insurance goals late in the third period, scored by
Reuben Horneman and
Noah Wilmes. Dordt took a 7-1 victory to finish the regular season.
Isaiah Van Noord came away with 45 saves on 46 total shots.
Dordt finished the regular season with a 20-4-1 overall record and secured the nubmer two seed in teh MACHA. Dordt will travel to St. Louis where they will play University of Washington at Saint Louis on Friday, February 21. Puck drop is scheduled for 11:15 am.
