The Dordt hockey team defeated the UNO Mavericks on a 10-3 decision in the Vernon Arena on Friday night. Dordt is now 18-4-1 overall and has clinched the number two seed in the MD3 MACHA playoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks got on the board first Andrew Kozol netted the opening goal just six minutes into the game. Dordt answered six minutes later with a goal of their own, scored by
Mason Carrels, assisted by
Lucas Van Berkel and
Luke Kester. Just over a minute later, Dordt took the lead off a
Noah Wilmes goal, assisted by
Mason Spejcher and
Lucas Van Berkel. Dordt took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Dordt added two more to their lead early in the second period on a
Mason Spejcher and
Noah Wilmes goal to take a 4-1 lead. UNO's Logan Mercier would capitalize on a Maverick power play just over half way into the period to cut the lead in half, 4-2. The Defenders added two more before the period ended as
Mason Spejcher scored an unassisted goal and
Noah Wilmes scored his second of the period, assisted by
Luke Kester and
Brady Espenson.
Dordt wasted little time in the third period as
Rylan Veenstra scored unassisted.
Reuben Horneman added another, assisted by
Rylan Veenstra.
Luke Kester scored Dordt's ninth goal, assisted by
Emmett Riley and
Ryler Schelle scored the tenth and final goal of the night for the Defenders, assisted by
Mason Spejcher on a power play. Andrew Kozol netted UNO's third goal of the night.
Dordt is now 18-4-1 overall and their next series will be at home on February 14 and 15 in the Vernon Arena.
