The Dordt University hockey team cruised to an 8-1 win over Wisconsin-Platteville this afternoon at the Vernon Ice Arena in Sioux Center, earning a weekend sweep over the Pioneers.

Tyler Morgan's squad earned a 6-0 win against Wisconsin-Platteville last night.
Dordt held a huge shots advantage over the Pioneers for the second consecutive day, totaling 69 compared to 15 by UWP. Last night, Dordt outshot the Pioneers 74-6.
A pair of first period goals from sophomore forward
Reuben Horneman and a single goal by
Mason Carrels gave the host Defenders a 3-0 lead after one period. Horneman scored his first goal at the 8:52 mark off a double assist by
Mason Spejcher and
Connor Perakslis. The sophomore combined with
Colton Dureno for the second goal during the 12th minute.
Christopher Janssen assisted on the Defenders final goal of the period which was scored by Carrels.
The Defenders erupted for five goals in the second period to push their lead to 8-1. Perakslis, Carrels and
Mike Torlina all scored a single goal while
Rylan Veenstra blasted two into the back of the net.
The Pioneers netted their only goal of the weekend when Damon scored off a double assist by Wendt and Landel.
