The Dordt Defender hockey team won its 20
th decision of the season with a 4-3 win over the Creighton Blue Jays on Friday night, January 23 at the Vernon Arena in Sioux Center.
Dordt never trailed with
Isaac Baart scoring with 10:29 left in the first period off an assist by
Tyler Welsh.  Creighton answered with a goal early in the second period on a power play.
Zach Espenson unlocked the tie with a slapshot at the 12:13 mark of the second period with
Rylan Veenstra assisting on the power play goal.
The lead stood until Creighton scored with 18:52 remaining in the game. Dordt came back with back to back goals less than a minute apart with
Reuben Horneman and
Mason Spejcher at the 6:46 and 5:55 mark. A Creighton goal with 5:26 left made it interesting and Creighton pulled their goalie moments later but Dordt withstood the man advantage to hang on.
Dordt outshot the Blue Jays 50-35 and
Isaiah Van Noord got the win in goal with 32 saves.
Dordt is 20-3.
Dordt is back at home for two games next week against Missouri with a 7pm start on Friday and a 1pm puck drop on Saturday.
