The Dordt Defender hockey team has advanced to the MACHA Tournament Championship with a 5-1 win over Arkansas on Saturday afternoon, February 21 in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Mason Spejcher scored in the first period and that held up into the second period when
Nick Espenson scored off assists by
Preston Waage and
Tristan Schlechter. Dordt was up 2-1 after the second period and then put the game out of reach with goals by
Reuben Horneman,
Rylan Veenstra and
Tyler Welsh. Weslah also assisted on Horneman's goal.
Dordt had a 33-30 shots advantage and
Tim Nanson earned his second win in goal of the tournament.
Dordt will face Nebraska-Omaha  in the championship on Monday, February 23 at 11am. Nebraska-Omaha was a 5-2 winner over Arkansas on Saturday night in the second semifinal. The winner earns an automatic berth to the ACHA Division III National Championship starting March 12.
