Isabel Pheifer

  • Title
    Athletic Communication Graduate Assistant
Pheifer is in her first year as a graduate assistant for the Dordt Athletic Communications department.

Education:

  • B.A. - Communications; Public Relations and Healthcare major | Psychology minor, Dordt University 2020-2024

Post Grad:

  • spent one year living, working, and growing in the beautiful state of Colorado, which I now consider home
  • attended many professional sports events and became a Denver sports fan for NFL, MLB, NLL, and NHL
  • the Golden State Warriors will always hold the top spot for my NBA team; I’ve been decked out in Warriors' gear for every NBA season since I was 12.

Work Experience:

  • during college, I had the joy of working all four years in the Athletic Communications office at Dordt
    • this consisted mostly of taking lots of photos and doing volleyball and basketball stats
  • after I graduated Dordt, I worked for one year doing marketing and court designing for Sport Court of the Rockies, a business that specialized in creating custom indoor, outdoor, commercial, and residential courts for any sport imaginable

Sports Experience:

  • I would call myself an avid fan, an encourager, a new coach, and a wannabe player. I grew up playing every sport available to me in my small-town school. I never watched a soccer game until I came to Dordt, but I did compete in and do pretty well in archery, so that was cool. Eventually, I fell in love with watching basketball and playing volleyball and thought I would play one of the two in college. That didn’t really work out, so I decided to be a choir nerd instead. I shifted my career focus to working in and being involved in the behind-the-scenes aspects of athletics. That’s what landed me at Dordt and in this position.

Career aspirations

  • I am holding onto the dream of working for a professional sports team doing Community Relations, Fan Engagement, or Basketball Operations. My dream would be to work for an NBA or WNBA team, but any sport would be fantastic. I could see myself being involved in NCAA college athletics at some point in my career as well. But whatever I do, I just want to be a welcoming presence and someone who makes every person feel the joy that athletics makes me feel. An athletic event can be a place to feel connected to those around you—especially those you never would’ve connected with otherwise. I want to be a part of the reason people feel like they belong.
