The Dordt Defender men's basketball team forged a 105-87 road win over Valley City State on Saturday night in Valley City, North Dakota to earn a sweep of a pair of games on Friday and Saturday to open the season.
Dordt trailed briefly 12-9 but outscored the hosts 11-1 to take a 20-13 lead on a
Cade Bleeker three-point shot with 12:55 left in the first half. The lead was never less than five the rest of the half and eventually ballooned to 23 on a Bleeker three followed by a two-point shot. Dordt settled for a 54-34 halftime lead. The Vikings got no closer than 14 in the second half and much of the final half was played at a 20 point difference.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt was 38-67 from the field for 57 percent success and the Defenders made 11-27 three-point shots. Dordt also converted 18-26 free throws.
- Dordt's defense limited Valley City State to 37-84 shooting for 44 percent and the hosts made 5-10 free throws and 8-23 three-point shots. Dordt had a 47-35 rebounding edge.
- Bryce Coppock scored 19 and had six rebounds with two assists.
- Cade Bleeker had 18 points and five rebounds while Jacob Vis had 17 points and six rebounds.
- Lucas Lorenzen added 13 points and Jackson Louscher and Camden Bialas completed the double digit scoring with 11 and 10 points each. Â Â Bialas also had seven rebounds and two assists.
- Jackson Lee knocked down three second half three-point shots for nine.
