Women's Basketball To Battle Trolls and Blue Hawks

WHEN

Dordt will face Trinity Christian and Dickinson State this Friday and Saturday, November 11 and 12 at a classic hosted by Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa. The game on Friday against Trinity Christian will start at 1:00 pm and the Saturday game against Dickinson State on Saturday tips off at 11:00 am.

  • Trinity Christian is coached by Theo Owens who is now in his third season and has a 25-28 record with the Palos Heights, Illinois school.

Dickinson State
  • Dickinson State started the season with three straight wins but have lost back to back games in their most recent outings.
  • Dickinson State is 1-0 against GPAC teams this season after beating Midland on October 29 63-51.
  • Eric Nelson is the coach of the BlueHawks and is in his fourth season. Nelson has a 27-55 record at Dickinson State and his last two teams have advanced to the conference semifinals.
  • Dickinson State was picked to finish sixth in the North Star Athletic Association preseason coaches poll.

RECENTLY

Trinity Christian played Trinity International in Deerfield, Illinois on Wednesday, November 9 and won a 72-48 decision. The Trolls led 42-23 at halftime, using a 23-14 start and a 19-9 advantage in the second quarter to take control. Laila McNeal scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds and Katarina Savic scored 15 points with five rebounds and six assists.   The Trolls made 27-65 shots while limiting Trinity International to 22-68 field goal shooting and they were forced into 25 turnovers.

Dickinson State lost to Montana Western on Saturday, November 5 by an 83-58 margin after trailing 22-20 after one quarter. A 24-14 second quarter deficit put the BlueHawks in a hole they were unable to dig out of. Samantha Oase had 12 points and Lindsay Peterson added 11 and Heather LaBree scored nine. Oase also had nine rebounds as Dickinson State held a 43-35 rebounding edge but Montana Western converted 45 percent of its field goal attempts.

Dordt started fast and won a 77-53 decision from Bellevue in a game that wasn't that close. The Defenders outscored the Bruins 44-18 in the second and third quarters combined and was led by Bailey Beckman's 21 points and Karly Gustafson's 19. Janie Schoonhoven added 10 points and seven rebounds and Faith Van Holland had 10 rebounds as Dordt had a 42-35 rebounding edge and made 49.2 percent of its field goals.

Dordt vs Trinity Christian
Dordt is 2-0 in games against Trinity Christian in the last five years.  Dordt won a 95-56 decision from Trinity Christian in Palos Heights, Illinois on November 1, 2019. Erika Feenstra scored 24 and Gabby Kreykes added 15 points with four rebounds. Bailey Beckman added 12 in that win and Dordt made 60 percent of his field goals. Summer Cramer and Breanna Toppen each had 13 points for the Trolls.

This is the first meeting between Dordt and Dickinson State in women's basketball.

NEXT

Dordt will face Morningside on the road on Wednesday, November 16 in the GPAC opener for the Defenders.
Trinity Christian will play St. Francis (Illinois) on November 16 in its first game after this weekend.

Dickinson State will face Oak Hills Christian on November 18 before playing Rocky Mountain College on November 25 and 26 on back to back dates
