Box Score The Dordt Defender women's basketball team won its seventh game in a row to start the season with a convincing 76-65 win over the Concordia Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, November 19 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Defenders built a 20-13 lead after a
Janie Schoonhoven layup with 2:26 left in the first quarter but Concordia battled back to tie the game at 22-22 on a three-point play with under 10 seconds remaining in the period.Â
Macy Sievers unlocked the tie as the quarter ended with a runner from the left elbow of the lane.
A Concordia three-point basket gave the Bulldogs a brief lead at the start of the second quarter but Schoonhoven got a short shot off a give from
Karly Gustafson and Dordt never trailed again. Schoonhoven added a basket at the 6:25 mark and Dordt was up 35-25. The lead eventually shrunk to 35-33 with an 8-0 run by Concordia over the next three minutes but Dordt was able to extend the lead to 47-41 when the first half ended.
The visitors got a three after a Dordt two as the second half began but Dordt's defense limited Concordia in the quarter to just nine points and extended the lead to 63-50. Dordt's lead grew to 66-52 with 8:31 left in the game and Dordt's lead was never less than seven the rest of the game. The two teams played scoreless basketball over the final 2:11 of the contest.
THE NUMBERS
- Janie Schoonhoven and Macy Sievers each had 18 points and went a combined 14-19 from the field. Schoonhoven also had eight rebounds and three steals while Sievers had five rebounds.
- Karly Gustafson had 14 points, four rebounds and four assists with two steals.

- Concordia converted 24-54 field goals for 44 percent success. Dordt made 28-57 field goals for 49 percent success and made 14-16 free throws.
- Dordt committed 16 turnovers and forced 20. Dordt had a 32-30 rebounding edge.
- Dordt is now 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the league. Concordia is 3-2 and 1-2.
