The Dordt University women's soccer team had its 2022 season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Midland in a quarterfinal match of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) postseason tournament.
Dordt finishes the year with a 10-7-2 record.
Avril Baccam scored her team-leading 19th goal of the season and
Jenna Wright made five saves for the Defenders.
Scoreless until the 13th minute, Midland broke through with a goal off a corner kick by Chloe Dietz, who took advantage of the wind to get the ball past Wright in the upper part of the goal. The Warriors picked up their second goal with five minutes left in the opening half when Aminata Lewis found the back of the net off an assist from Brittany Llanes. It was the first goal of the season for Lewis.
The score remained 2-0 until Baccam received a pass from
Jori Bronner, beat a Midland defender and scored on a long shot from around 18-yards out to make it a 1-goal game. Midland, however, answered with an important insurance goal eight minutes later from Llanes.
