Box Score The Dordt Defender men's basketball team got its first win of the GPAC season with an 81-68 victory over Briar Cliff in Sioux City on Tuesday night, November 22. Dordt trailed once when Briar Cliff opened the scoring with two made free throws but back to back baskets by
Cade Bleeker put Dordt up 5-2 and the Defenders eventually built an 11-2 lead four minutes into the game on another Bleeker basket.
Dordt extended the difference to 17-7 but the Chargers went on an 8-0 run for a 17-15 deficit but Dordt answered with an 10-2 run to lead by double figures. The lead stayed around ten the rest of the half with
Bryce Coppock hitting a shot from the baseline for a 42-31 halftime lead.
The hosts made one serious run and got within 52-48 with 12:05 left in the game but Dordt effectively put the game out of reach with a 16-4 run capped by a
Trey Hinote basket with 5:59 left in the game. The Chargers would get as close as nine the rest of the game before Dordt settled for an 81-68 win.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt made 32-56 baskets for 57 percent success and the Defenders made 8-16 three-point shots. Dordt also made 9-14 free throws and held a 33-27 rebounding edge.
- Bryce Coppock was 8-13 shooting for 21 points.
- Jacob Vis had 16 points with 11 rebounds and four assists.
- Luke Rankin had 12 points and Cade Bleeker and Trey Hinote had nine points each.
- Dordt is 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the GPAC and will host Oak Hills Christian on Friday night at 7:00.
- Briar Cliff is 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
