The Dordt Defender football team won a 49-7 decision over Hastings on Saturday afternoon in a Senior Day contest played in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Dordt started the scoring with
Anthony Trojahn going 47 yards on Dordt's second possession to take an eventual 7-0 lead. Hastings had an immediate answer with Antoine Murphy going 95 yards on the kick return to tie it 7-7 with 10:21 left to go in the quarter.Â
Just over three minutes later
Brendan Pieper plowed in from five yards out and less than four minutes later
Nick Wellen raced 45 yards for a score and a 21-7 lead with 3:46 left in the period. Trojahn added a one yard touchdown run at the 4:36 mark of the second period and Dordt led 28-7 at halftime and held Hastings to negative yardage on offense.Â
Hastings had a chance to cut into the lead in the third period when they got within field goal range but a blocked field goal by
Grant Hixson seemed to end the threat. On the ensuing recovery Dordt fumbled and Hastings had a fresh set of downs to work with. The defense got another stop and Hixson again blocked the kick and this time Dordt held on to the recovery.
Dordt marched down the field and
Chase Tompkins had a three yard scoring run to cap the drive and Tompkins scored his second touchdown with a ten yard run on a reverse where he was sprung by an
Eli Boldan block. Dordt's final score was a 77 yard sprint by
Connor Dodd that made the final 49-7.
