RECENTLY

The Dordt Defenders beat the College of Saint Mary on Wednesday, November 30 by a 79-42 margin, using a 53-18 stretch in the second and third quarters to blow open a 15-11 contest. Karly Gustafson had 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Bailey Beckman added 13 and Janie Schoonhoven had 10 points and six rebounds. Macey Nielson and Macy Sievers each had nine points with Sievers handing out nine assists with six steals and six rebounds.   Dordt was 9-18 from the three-point line and had a 45-31 rebounding edge.

Mount Marty beat Midland on November 30 in Yankton, South Dakota. Midland was up 33-26 at halftime but was outscored 41-27 in the second half. Midland converted 21-59 field goals for 36 percent but sent the Lancers to the free throw line 27 times and Mount Marty made 16 of them while Midland was 8-15 from the charity stripe. Sam Shepard and Erin Prusa each had 14 points in the loss.

THE SERIES

Dordt leads the series 7-3 since 2017. Dordt was a 77-50 winner on January 22 in Sioux Center as Ashtyn Veerbeek scored 32 points with 15 rebounds and Bailey Beckman and Karly Gustafson each had 13 and 11 points.  The win was a turnaround for the Defenders who had lost an 87-81 decision on December 4, 2021.  Ashtyn Veerbeek had 30 points and 10 rebounds in the loss while Janie Schoonhoven scored 21 points with nine rebounds. Dordt was outscored 28-15 in the fourth quarter in the loss. Peyton Wingert had 26 points and seven rebounds and Sam Shepard scored 21 and was 5-8 from the three-point line.

NEXT

Dordt will host Northwestern on December 7 and Dakota Wesleyan on December 10 before concluding the first semester on the road on Thursday night, December 15 against Mount Marty.
