VanHauen To Join Defender Football

(Saturday, December 22; Sioux Center, Iowa) Trey VanHauen, a senior at Pella High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender football program.  

VanHauen is a 5-11, 165 pound safety and totaled 82.5 tackles with an interception, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He caught 12 passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns while also returning 18 kickoffs for 363 yards and eight punt returns for 66 yards. He earned first team all-district honors in both 2021 and 2022. 

"The culture of the program was fabulous. I really enjoyed the coaches' enthusiasm and passion for coaching. They have good programs in the areas I want to pursue in my schooling," said VanHauen. 

Trey is the son of Heather Schnell and Brent VanHauen of Pella, Iowa. He is undecided on his intended field of study.

Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA). 

U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
