The Dordt Defender men's basketball ran its current winning streak to five with a 93-89 overtime win over the Northwestern Red Raiders in GPAC play on Wednesday night in Sioux Center, Iowa.
A balanced scoring effort helped the Defenders to their third win in GPAC play while dropping Northwestern to 2-3 in the league.
Both teams started slowly with a Dillon Carlson three-point shot extending Northwestern's lead to 8-4 with 15:57 left in the half. Dordt tied it at eight and it was deadlocked again at 10-10 before a 
Trey Hinote three-point shot put the Defenders up 13-10. It was still 17-15 with 8:22 left when 
Lucas Lorenzen knocked down a three-point shot and 
Jacob Vis followed with a three-pointer for a 23-15 advantage. 
Bryce Coppock added a three for Dordt's first double digit lead at 26-16 and the lead grew to 36-22 and 38-24 before Northwestern rallied to 40-32 at the half as 
Luke Rankin made a bucket just before the buzzer from the free throw line.
Northwestern cut the lead down to one on several occasions but was unable to take the lead until the 3:02 mark on a Carlson three-point shot. 
Luke Rankin answered with a three for Dordt to put the Defenders up 76-74. The teams exchanged missed baskets until Northwestern regained the lead with three free throws at the 1:36 mark but 
Jacob Vis made a pair of free throws to reverse the one point difference at 78-77. A three-point shot put Northwestern up 80-78 and 
Luke Rankin made a lefthanded layup with :53 left in the game to  tie it at 80.  Neither team was able to convert open looks at three-point shots  to unlock the tie and the game went to overtime.
Jacob Vis put the Defenders up 82-80 with a field goal to start the overtime and after a blocked shot by Vis the senior went to the free throw line and made one of two free throws. A 
Bryce Coppock basket gave Dordt an 85-80 lead after Conner Geddes made the first of three, three-point shots in the overtime Dordt was up 85-83. Northwestern was unable to convert trailing by two and 
Bryce Coppock made a basket to give Dordt a two-possession lead and Dordt went 6-6 from the free throw line to seal the four-point win.
THE NUMBERS
	- Dordt was 34-73 from the field for 46.6 percent success and 11-25 from the three-point line for 44 percent.  Dordt also converted 14-19 free throws.
- Rebounds were even with both teams getting 39 and Dordt had nine turnovers to 13 for Northwestern.
- Northwestern converted 33-68 field goals for 49 percent and 15-33 from the arc for 46 percent.  Northwestern converted 8-9 free throws.
- Bryce Coppock scored 23 and handed out three assists with two steals.
- Jacob Vis had 18 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot with a steal.
- Luke Rankin had 16 points and four assists with three steals and Cade Bleeker made 5-7 field goals for 12 points with nine rebounds.
- Lucas Lorenzen was Dordt's fifth double-digit scorer with 10 points and seven rebounds.
- Northwestern was led by Carlson and Geddes with 25 points each and Matt Onken scored 15. The three were a combined 15-25 from the three-point arc.
- Dordt is 10-2 overall and 3-2 in the GPAC while Northwestern is 7-4 and 2-3.
