The Dordt University women's soccer team opened its season with a 3-0 loss to Colorado Christian in a match played on the turf at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, Colo.
The host Cougars went ahead 1-0 when Kinley Sanders drove the ball past Defender goalkeeper
Jenna Wright during the ninth minute of the first half. The score stayed 1-0 as the match went into halftime. The teams combined for 11 shots in the first half, three by the Defenders and eight for Colorado Christian.
Still a one-goal game 10-minutes into the second frame, Colorado Christian added to its lead on a goal scored by Ashleigh Willette at the 55th minute. Willette netted her teams third and final goal at the 81st minute.
Dordt totaled six shots for the match;
Avril Baccam recorded the one shot on goal. Wright made seven saves while playing the full 90-minutes.
Colorado Christian accounted for 10 shots on-goal, three from Willette and two each for Sanders and Molly Miller. Ashleigh McGuire made one save and earned the shutout.
Dordt returns to the field on Saturday for a match against Metro State, beginning at noon.
