THE CHARGERS
Briar Cliff is 0-1 after suffering a season opening loss last week to Waldorf in non-conference play.
Luke Davies passed for 143 yards and two touchdowns in the loss while going 14-23 with no interceptions.  His favorite target was Tim Brown with four catches for 39 yards. Damarreon Nelson had two catches for 43 yards and a score and Spencer George was good for 27 yards on two catches.
On the ground Asante Anglin had 12 rushes for 82 yards and a long of 26 yards.  The Chargers had 332 total yards of offense in the 42-24 loss.
Briar Cliff allowed Waldorf to run for 267 yards and the Warriors had 224 passing yards. Brayden Pommier -Williams had the only quarterback sack for the Chargers and Tim McCarthy forced a fumble. Winston Gassant and Pommier-Williams each had six solo tackles and Rett Tinker had five.
Last year's Briar Cliff team was 3-8 with wins over Mount Marty, Jamestown and Dakota Wesleyan. Chad LaDage's first team at Briar Cliff averaged 261 yards on offense and gave up 475.   Briar Cliff was outscored 43-15 last season with Davies completing 51 percent of his passes for 2270 yards and had had 11 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. Anglin ran for 210 yards on 53 rushes and Okoro caught 46 passes for a 16.0 yards per catch average. Brown caught 52 passes for 11.2 yards.
THE DEFENDERS
Dordt was 7-3 last season and is playing in its season opener.  The Defenders are scheduled to play 10 GPAC games.
Last year's team averaged 309 yards rushing per game and 215 yards passing while scoring 43.8 points a game.  The defense allowed 18.6 points per game and controlled the run with 128 yards allowed and teams passed for 207 yards.
Kade McDaniel completed 59 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and six interceptions. McDaniel also ran for 399 yards on 66 carries. 
Anthony Trojahn rushed for 774 yards on 117 carreis and he scored 12 times while 
Nick Wellen ran for 370 yards on 60 rushes.  As a team the Defenders ran for six yards per attempt. 
Eli Boldan is the top returning pass catcher with 29 last year for a 15.4 average and three touchdowns. 
Hayden Large caught 19 passes for 21.4 yards per catch and he had five touchdown receptions.
Blade Koons is back to handle the punting after posting a 40.6 yards per punt average.
On defense 
Tanner Millikan had 40 solo and 31 assisted tackles and returns while 
Abe Stoesz and 
Drew Daum had 33 and 26 solo tackles each with Stoesz picking off two passes and Daum had four sacks.
LAST YEAR
The Defenders beat Briar Cliff 58-0 last season on November 6 in Sioux Center. Dordt ran for 412 yards and passed for 242 while the defense held Briar Cliff to 214 total yards of offense. 
Anthony Trojahn and 
Carter Schiebout each had 67 yards and 
Nick Wellen and 
Daniel Dickerson had 63 and 62 respectively. Wellen, Dickerson and Trojahn all had two touchdowns. 
Eli Boldan caught five passes for 105 yards and McDaniel was 11-16 passing for 197 yards with a touchdown. 
Aidan Platon also was 5-6 passing for 45 yards.  Briar Cliff got 46 yards on the ground from Tim Brown and Luke Davies was 13-32 passing for 130 yards with four completions to Aaron Okoro for 68 yards.
Briar Cliff leads the series 8-6 but Dordt has won the last six meetings.
