(Wednesday, January 18; Sioux Center, Iowa) Calvin Yonak, a senior at Zimmerman High School (Minnesota), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.
"We are excited to have Cal join our program. He has excellent size and is versatile to step out on the floor. His best basketball is ahead of him. We look forward to his development as a player and manof faith on our campus," said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.
Yonak averages 11 points per game with seven rebounds and three blocked shots per game. He's earned academic all-conference honors during his career and team most valuable player honors. Yonak is 6-9 and plays for the Minnesota Crossfire Club program.
"I chose Dordt because it feels like home to me. I have a great connection to the coaches and feel like I will be a great fit on the team. I also chose Dordt because the engineering program is excellent and the Christian aspect is wrapped in everything done there," said Yonak.
Calvin is the son of Jay and Sara Yonak of Zimmerman, Minnesota. He plans to study civil engineering at Dordt.
