RECENTLY

Dordt had no trouble in defeating Central Christian on Thursday night 25-10, 25-5, 25-15. Caleb Kulesza had 14 kills and Luke Nelson put down seven and neither had an attack error in the match. Lukas Van Groningen put up 29 assists and Robert Piekarz had four ace serves and 10 digs.

Kansas Wesleyan lost to Jamestown on Friday night, January 27 by scores of 25-11, 25-20, 25-16. Jalen Watt and Justin Barras each had six kills as Kansas Wesleyan had 19 kills and 19 errors in the loss. Marcus Taylor put up 15 assists and Jeremy Lapeze got to nine digs.  The Coyotes surrendered six ace serves and a .421 kill efficiency.

LAST YEAR

The Dordt Defender volleyball team's 2022 season was the best on record for the program as Dordt finished the season as the GPAC runner-up in the six-team league and hosted a GPAC semifinal contest.  Dordt earned a key conference sweep over Ottawa on February 12 and that allowed the Defenders to secure the runner-up spot. Andres Guzman, Caleb Kulesza and Rob Piekarz all earned first-team honors from the GPAC and Luke Nelson and Brady Frost were second-team selections.  Dylan Kooiman and Lukas Van Groningen were honorable mention selections and all seven athletes return for this year's team.

Kansas Wesleyan was 2-18 last season and earned a pair of wins over Central Christian. Dustin Stahlman is in his first season as head coach at the Salina, Kansas based school and coached for two years at Lyon Collee where he coached the women's program.

THE SERIES

Dordt leads the series 2-0 and won both meetings by 3-0 counts last season. The February 24 meeting was in Sioux Center and Dordt claimed a 25-17, 25-12, 25-12 victory. Caleb Kulesza and Brady Frost each had 12 kills and Lukas Van Groningen had 33 assists. Andres Guzman also had nine digs and Levi Ewald had eight. Victor Loya had eight kills and Christopher Perez five.

NEXT

Dordt travels to Jamestown on Saturday, February 3 and will be back at Jamestown, North Dakota for four matches in a classic on February 10 and 11.
