The Dordt women's basketball team made it a season sweep of the Hastings Broncos with a 73-55 win in Hastings, Nebraska on Saturday afternoon.
Dordt never trailed but they did fight off an 11-11 tie midway through the first quarter.
McKenna Klecker knocked down one of her two three-point shots to unlock the tie and
Faith Van Holland followed with a three-point play and Dordt held a 23-19 first quarter lead. The Defenders gradually built the lead in the second quarter and
Bailey Beckman's two free throws saw the lead expand to 44-29 before a three-point Hastings basket made it 44-32 at halftime.
Dordt struggled to get started in the second half and Hastings sliced away at the lead and had it down to 48-45 after a pair of free throws with 4:16 left in the third period. A
Janie Schoonhoven free-throw line jumper made it 50-45 and
Macey Nielson buried a three-point shot with 2:55 left for a 53-46 advantage. Dordt closed the period on an 8-0 run and Hastings was never closer than eight in the fourth quarter.
THE NUMBERS
- Janie Schoonhoven scored 16 points with six rebounds and Bailey Beckman scored 14 with three rebounds.
- Karly Gustafson had 13 points and seven rebounds with two assists.
- Faith Van Holland had 11 points and five rebounds and Hayden Heimensen added seven.
- Dordt was 27-57 from the field and 7-16 from the three-point line while holding a 38-36 rebounding edge.
- Hastings was limited to 19-59 field goal shooting and 5-21 from the three-point arc.
- Dordt is now 21-1 overall and 15-1 in the league while Hastings is 8-14 overall and 4-12 overall.
