For the second night in a row, the Dordt Hockey team put together an dominating performance in all aspects. They beat the Northern Illinois Huskies 10-1 to earn the series sweep.
The Defenders got on the board early off a goal from Noah Wilmes just 6 minutes into the game. Wilmes was assisted by Brady Espenson.
Griffin Lennes scored unassisted just 30 seconds later to go up 2-0 in the first period.
Nate Lorenze put in the third goal of the period with just under 10 minutes left, assisted by Griffin Lennes.
The Huskies put in their only goal of the game to avoid the shutout with 17:04 left in the second period, scored by Nick Gambino and assisted by James Caddis.
Tyson Wildeboer extended the lead with an unassisted goal with 14:41 left in teh second period.
Brady Espenson scored just a minute later, assisted by Lucas Van Berkel and Noah Wilmes to make the score 5-1.
Ryler Schelle put another goal in for the Defenders with 12:35 left in the second period. Assisted by Brady Espenson and Noah WIlmes.
Andrew Benson scored just under a minute later off an assist from Alex Espenson and Isaac Bedwell.
Noah Wilmes put his his second of the game and fifth goal of the series, assisted by Connor Raiche and Isaac Baart.
Alex Espenson gets on the stat sheet late in the game with a goal with five minutes left in the game, assisted by Jonah Weems.
The series was capped off by a goal with 13 seconds left scored by Ryan Trent, assisted by Griffin Lennes and Noah Wilmes. This was Trent's first goal of his collegiate career.
Charlie Lang Finished with 11 saves on 12 shots and keeps a perfect 3-0 record with 1.33 GAA.
The Defenders will be on the ice again October 27 at 7 PM when they face off against Nebraska-Omaha during Defender Days.Â
