The Dordt University women's soccer team lost to Midland 4-3 in double overtime in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championship match played tonight at Heedum Field in Fremont, Neb.
Tied 3-3 after 90 minutes of play, Midland's Addison Castellanos scored the game-winner during the 93rd minute off a corner kick by Sydney Herren. Dordt was unable to convert on its four scoring chances, including a corner kick in the first overtime, over the final 17 minutes.
Both teams put on a show for the full 110 minutes as they combined for 52 shots, 20 on-goal, and 14 corner kicks.Â
Dordt, the No.4 seed, needed just 23 seconds to take a 1-0 lead as
Karinna Tel received a ball 40-yards out, used a couple of touches and blasted a shot past Midland goalkeeper Kyla Pires.

The score remained 1-0 until Midland netted their first goal, during the 39th minute, by Caytlynn Garland to send the match into halftime tied 1-1.
Scoring opportunities were abundant for both teams during the opening stages of the second half. Dordt was the first to capitalize on a scoring chance as Tel out-ran a couple of Midland defenders to collect a pass from
Joslyn Terpstra and then touched it by the Warriors goalkeeper on the near-post to give her team a 2-1 lead.Â

Midland was quick to respond as they scored a pair of goals within 90 seconds to take their first lead, 3-2, with 19 minutes left to play. Tia Benjamin was first to score off an assist by Hanna Schimmer (70th minute) and then Sydney Herren followed with a goal on a corner kick during the 71st minute.
Down 3-2 with under five minutes left, the Defenders nearly tied the match when
Ellie Stuart ripped a shot that hit the crossbar and dropped straight down without clearing the goal line. Midland, however, in an attempt to clear the ball, was called for a penalty in the box and Stuart converted her third and most important penalty kick of the season to send the match into overtime.

- Dordt totaled 15 shots, six on-goal; Midland accounted for 37 shots, 14 on-goal
