The Dordt University women's soccer team earned a 3-2 win over Morningside in the quarterfinals of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Tournament played tonight at the Defender soccer complex.Â
The Defenders advance to the GPAC semifinals for the first time since 2010Â and earn their second win over Morningside this season. Dordt improves to 11-5-2 overall; Morningside has its season come to an end with a 10-5-3 record.Â
All five goals were scored in a fast-paced, back-and-forth first half that featured a total of 18 shots combined between the teams over the opening 45 minutes. Morningside broke through first with a goal from Ida Carlsson, who chipped a shot near post off a cross by Roselynn Bosman just three minutes into the match.Â
The Defenders tied the match during the ninth minute when
Ellie Stuart received a pass from
Joslyn Terpstra and drove a shot that deflected off the far post and into the goal. Around 10 minutes later,
Karinna Tel gave Dordt its first lead when she blasted a shot from 25-yards out and into the upper right corner of the goal for a 2-1 lead.
Tel then assisted on the Defenders final goal that was scored by
Hayden Jennett during the 22nd minute.Â
Morningside finished off the scoring with a goal by Keyera Harmon to make it a one-goal lead, 3-2, during the 27th minute.Â
