Women's Soccer - GPAC Quarterfinal Preview

Game Time: 
  • Postseason play begins for the Dordt University women's soccer team as they host Morningside Thursday night, Nov.2, for a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) quarterfinal. Game time on the Defenders home turf is set for 5pm.
  • The Defenders earned the No.4 seed and finished tied with Morningside for fourth in the GPAC regular season with a 7-3-2 record, 10-5-2 overall. Morningside, the No.5 seed, ended league play with a 7-3-2 mark, 10-4-3 overall.

A Look at the GPAC Tournament:
  • The 8-team postseason tournament begins Thursday, Nov.2 with four quarterfinal matches. All four quarterfinal matches will be played in the evening, beginning with the Defenders match against Morningside. The other three matches will start at 7pm.

The four winners of the quarterfinal matches advance to the GPAC semifinals on Tuesday, Nov.7 with the highest remaining seeds serving as the hosts at times to be determined. The 2023 postseason championship match will be held on Friday, Nov.10 at the highest remaining seed. 

At Stake:
  •  The winner of the GPAC tournament will advance to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round as the league's second automatic representative. Hastings, the No.1 seed, has already secured the GPAC's first bid into the NAIA Championship by winning the regular season title. If the Broncos win the conference tournament as well, the GPAC runner-up (Concordia) will earn the second bid into the NAIA Championship. 
  • The NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship - Opening Round will be played at different host sites around the country on Nov.16-18. The 10 winners from the opening round brackets advance to play at the championship final site - Foley, Ala.
Tournament History:
  • Dordt has qualified for eight consecutive and 20 of 24 overall GPAC postseason tournaments (since the GPAC began in 2000). They hold an 11-19 overall record in the postseason and have made it to the conference title match four times, going 1-3 in the championship match (winning the title in 2008).
  • The Defenders have lost nine consecutive postseason games with their last win coming in 2010 against Doane in the quarterfinals. Dordt is 1-1 all-time against Morningside in the postseason:
