Northwestern defeats Dordt 83-66

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt Defenders were limited to 29 second half points and lost an 83-66 GPAC decision to Northwestern on Wednesday night in Sioux Center. 

A Luke Rankin basket a little over five minutes into the game put the Defenders up 16-11 but Northwestern outscored Dordt over the next four minutes 9-2 to take a 20-18 lead. Northwestern maintained the lead to 32-28 when Connor Millikan and Bryce Coppock made free throws to tie the game. The two teams exchanged three-point baskets for a 35-35 tie. Coppock made two more free throws for Dordt for a brief lead and Alex Van Kalsbeek scored a layup at the horn to knot it at 37-37.

Northwestern took the lead for good at 45-43 on a Van Kalsbeek basket and the lead grew to 56-44 with 13:57 left in the game. Dordt rallied to within 58-55 on a Coppock basket with 8:46 remaining but Northwestern went on a 9-0 run to effectively put the game out of reach and won by the 17-point margin.

• Dordt was 17-50 from the floor and 9-29 from the arc.
• Northwestern was 33-63 from the field and 12-30 from the three-point line.
• Dordt converted 23-25 free throws and had a 33-32 rebounding advantage.
  • Dordt Leaders
    • Connor Millikan had a career high 20 points and handed out two assists.
    • Luke Rankin had 13 points, five rebounds and five assists.
    • Bryce Coppock had 12 points and five rebounds with two steals. Coppock went over 1600 career points in the loss and is the fifth Dordt men's basketball player to hit that milestone. 
  • Northwestern Leaders
    • Alex Van Kalsbeek scored 23 points and had five assists and five rebounds.
    • Connor Geddes scored 18 points with three assists in a reserve role.
