(Thursday, December 7; Sioux Center, Iowa) Macy Koupal, a senior at Wagner High School (South Dakota), has announced her intention to attend Dordt University and join the Defender basketball program.

"I chose to attend Dordt University because of the faith-based foundation. I want to be challenged spiritually, academically and athletically and I felt like Dordt was the best fit for my needs. I also like the idea of a small school with a family-like atmosphere. I am excited to see what my future holds and to be a Dordt Defender!" said Koupal.

Koupal is a 5-8 guard and averaged 8.5 points per game as a junior with five rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. She has 895 career points with 509 rebounds, 272 assists and 139 steals. She was a 2023 Class A State All-Tournament team selection and has earned all-conference honors four times.   She averaged a career high 14 points per game and with seven rebounds in 2020-21.

"Macy is a tremendous person who fits the mission of Dordt University and our athletic department well.  She's had a tremendous basketball career at Wagner High School while playing for her dad Mike.  She comes from a strong Christian family and we look forward to serving Macy at DU," said Dordt basketball coach Bill Harmsen

Macy is the daughter of Michael and Tera Koupal of Wagner, South Dakota. She plans to study biology and business at Dordt.
