The Dordt Defender women's basketball team secured the first ever GPAC title in the sport for the program with a 99-64 win over the Doane Tigers on Saturday, February 11 at the DeWitt Gym.
With 6:07 left in the first quarter Doane cut the lead down to 10-9 but the Defenders answered with an 11-0 run including back to back three-point buckets by
McKenna Klecker. The lead blew up from there as the Defenders held a 31-14 lead at the quarter break.
Things continued to go Dordt's way in the second quarter and
Macy Sievers ended the period with a long three-point shot at the buzzer to give Dordt a 53-28 lead. The entire second half was played at a 25-plus point lead as Dordt settled for the 99-64 win.
The Dordt win secured the outright conference title for the Defenders and the number one seed in the postseason tournament.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt was 37-61 from the field for 61 percent from the floor and 17-28 from the three-point line.Â
- Doane was limited to 22-57 shooting for 39 percent and 6-17 from the arc for 35 percent.
- Dordt had a 37-26 rebounding advantage.
- McKenna Klecker sparked the Defenders with 16 points and was 5-6 from the three-point line.
- Karly Gustafson had 18 points and six rebounds with four assists.
- Macy Sievers had 13 points, five rebounds and six assists.
- Janie Schoonhoven scored 12 points with five rebounds and four assists and Bailey Beckman added 11 points.
- The Defenders are now 25-1 overall and 19-1 in the conference.Â

Dordt will travel to face Northwestern and Jamestown on Wednesday and Saturday, February 15 and 18 to conclude the regular season.
