The Dordt University women's track and field team turned in a great first day competing at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb.
Jessica Kampman took first place and led a quartet of Defender runners in tonight's 5000m. Kampman crossed the finish line with a school record time of 17:18, breaking the old mark (17:33) set by Michelle Steiger in 2011. Kampman's time is best in the GPAC and ranks as the fourth fastest in the NAIA to date.
Lucy Borkowski ran a personal best time in the 5K for the second consecutive meet, crossing the finish line in fifth place with a time of 18:34. Borkowski has the No.2 time in the GPAC and the No.8 fastest time in program history.
Taylor Anema (7th - 18:49) and
Elyse Kuperus (8th - 19:21) also had top 10 finishes. Kuperus' time was a personal best and ranks 11th in the GPAC while Anema's time is No.6 in the GPAC.
Ayda Den Herder had a personal best mark and finished seventh overall in the long jump. Den Herder jumped 5.17m and is currently tied for the ninth best mark in the GPAC.
Day two of the Sevigne Invite begins tomorrow at 11am.
