Volleyball Claims Afternoon Win

The Dordt Defender men's volleyball team concluded its California trip with a 3-1 win over Pacific Union on Angwin, California on Friday, March 10 by set scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21.

Dordt led 10-6 early in set one and was still up 15-11 and 23-19, looking poised to take set one with no incident.  Pacific Union rallied with five straight points to lead 24-23 and a Luke Nelson kill stopped the threat for the moment  and fought off set point. Back to back points on a kill and Dordt attack error gave the Pioneers the unlikely come from behind win.

Dordt never trailed in set two and won 25-19, controlling the set from the start but started set three out behind.  A run of points put the Defenders up 13-9 and they extended the lead to 17-10. The Pioneers closed to 22-21 but a Dordt timeout followed by a Nelson kill and a set error by Pacific Union and Dordt took a 25-22 win eventually on a Nelson kill.

Set four was more of the same with Dordt taking an early lead and holding on as Pacific Union closed to within three but got no closer in falling 25-21.

COACH CHAD HANSON SAID

"A slow start led to a strong finish. We had to quickly adjust our mindset and some of our strategies as the match unfolded. This week of matches has allowed us to grow closer with each other while playing many different programs for the very first time. Defender Nation has been strong at each of our matches and we have been blessed by the hospitality and generosity shown to us. With a weekend ahead of site seeing and fellowship, we look forward to wrapping up conference play next week."

NEXT

Dordt will travel to Morningside on March 16 and Ottawa on March 18 to conclude league play.
