Men's Volleyball Starts Week With Win

Box Score The Dordt Defender men's volleyball ran its winning streak to 10 matches with a 3-1 win over Simpson University in Redding, California.

Dordt won set one 25-19 and seemed to be in control before the hosts bounced back in set two with Simpson grabbing an early 4-0 lead. The hosts maintained a consistent lead, pushing the difference to 15-9 and holding off a Dordt rally for a 25-20 win to even the match.

Set three was tied 3-3 before a service error put the Defenders ahead and back to back attack errors by the hosts made it 6-3. A Caleb Kulesza service ace expanded the lead to 7-3 and the four point cushion proved to be enough as neither team put together a significant run of points, allowing Dordt to win the 25-20 decision.

The Defenders never trailed in set four, getting ahead 7-4 early and then fighting off a Simpson attack that tied it 7-7. A Luke Nelson kill followed by back to back attack errors by the hosts extended the lead to 10-7.

Simpson eventually tied the set at 14-14 on an attack error but Luke Nelson unlocked the tie. Simpson managed to tie it again at 16-16 and 18-18 with Andres Guzman giving Dordt the lead for good with a kill and Lukas Van Groningen followed with a service ace. Another Guzman kill made it 21-18. Dordt's lead was never less than two the rest of the set as the Defenders scored the final point with a block by Nelson and Brady Frost for a 25-21 win.

COACH CHAD HANSON SAID

"We worked our way out of a difficult second set that had plenty of errors to complete an important first match on this road trip. Our guys competed and discovered different stretches of points in serving and block as well as attacking."
