The Dordt Defender baseball team earned a sweep of Northwestern in Great Plains Athletic Conference action on Friday night in Sioux Center.
Dordt came back from deficits in both games in the 6-4 and 6-3 decisions.
GAME 1
Northwestern struck for three runs in the first inning but Dordt chipped away with a run in the home half of the first inning with a bases loaded walk to
Jason Carrig. Dordt added to the threat with
Nolan Christianson doubled down the rightfield line two score two runs and later scored on an error off the bat of
Jason Carrig.
Dordt took the lead with a
Logan Harris homerun into the evergreens in leftfield with
Drew Oreskes on base and the 6-3 lead was enough as Northwestern mustered a run in the fourth and that ended the scoring.
THE NUMBERS
- Both teams had 10 hits with Harris and Christianson each getting three and knocking in two.
- Harris had three runs scored and had a single, double and homerun.
- Oreskes was 2-3 with two runs scored.
- Diego Benitez pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.
- Chaz Gothard pitched the final inning and a third and gave up one hit for his fourth save.
- Dordt's defense had three double plays.
GAME 2
Northwestern scored a run each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings for a 3-0 advantage before Dordt rallied.
Kaden Davis had a sacrifice fly in the seventh that plated
Jason Carrig. Carrig reached on a double to start the inning and went to third on a
Logan De Vries single that set up the sacrifice fly opportunity.
Anthony Rodriguez singled and a strikeout followed and with two outs
Logan Harris smashed a line drive over the leftfield fence to give Dordt a 4-3 lead.
Northwestern had runners at second and third with no one out in the eighth but
Chaz Gothard came in and retired the next three batters to get out of trouble. In the eighth Dordt's first two batters were retired but
Jason Carrig reached on an error and
Logan De Vries was hit by a pitch. After the runners advanced on a stolen base
Kaden Davis delivered a double that scored two runs and gave Dordt a 6-3 lead.
Northwestern's first two batters were retired in the ninth but a double and an error extended the inning but Gothard got a strikeout to end the game.

- Mike Bruell started the game and pitched six innings and struck out one with five hits allowed and two runs given up.
- Mason Price earned his second win of the season with a walk and two strikeouts issued.
- Chaz Gothard earned his fourth save of the season and struck out three with one hit in two innings.
- Dordt is 6-20 in the GPAC and 18-26 overall and Northwestern is 12-14 in the league and 19-27 overall.
